ConnectYard, Inc. today announced that Cornell University is using its social learning service to help first-year students that are participating in its prefreshman summer program make the transition from high school to a college campus environment as well as support learning center activities for the summer. The program is designed to help students prepare for the challenges of the freshman year at Cornell. Students generally enroll in regular summer-session courses; enrichment courses in areas such as writing, chemistry or mathematics; and/or a college-achievement seminar. The program includes field trips, guest lectures, and a wide range of social and cultural activities; all of which ConnectYard will be used to support.
ConnectYard leverages popular social networking sites, like Facebook and Twitter, to better connect students, build a feeling of community and provide enhanced academic support - all of which positively affect a student's persistence through graduation. The company will host an introductory study break session for students in the summer program that covers how they can use the service to connect with other students in their classes and major, get help with course assignments and study questions as well as stay informed of relevant campus events and services.
"The PreFreshman Summer Program at Cornell is a great opportunity for students to get a leg up on the Fall semester," said Donald Doane, the Company's CEO. "ConnectYard will help students take full advantage of the networking opportunities and learning resources that they have at their disposal."
